MDRS Celebrates Local Businesses at Luncheon for National Disability Employment Awareness Month

MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – The Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services (MDRS) hosted the District 7 Community Partner Outreach Appreciation Luncheon on Thursday, honoring local businesses for their contributions to employing individuals with disabilities as part of National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM).

The event took place at the Kahlmus Auditorium on the Mississippi State University College Park campus, bringing together community members and business leaders to celebrate inclusive employment practices.

During the luncheon, MDRS recognized several outstanding businesses and individuals for their efforts. The awards presented included:

  • Large Business of the Year: Ochsner Rush Medical Center
  • Small Business of the Year: Neshoba County Co-op
  • New Business of the Year: Digio Strategies
  • Counselor of the Year: Mary Hathorn
  • Rising Star: Nicholas Higginbatham

The event concluded with an invocation and a lunch provided by McAlister’s Deli, fostering a sense of community among attendees.

MDRS Vocational Rehabilitation services aim to provide personalized resources for individuals with disabilities, equipping them to secure and maintain meaningful employment. The Vocational Rehabilitation for the Blind program focuses on enhancing job opportunities for Mississippians experiencing blindness or low vision. Additionally, the Office of Special Disability Programs offers vital services to assist those with severe disabilities in achieving independent living.
